Diplomatic Immunity and Protection: Understanding Your Position as an Ambassador for Christ

Just as nations have ambassadors who represent them in foreign lands, God has named Christians as ambassadors for Christ. See what the Bible says in 2 Corinthians 5: 17 - 21. Being an ambassador for Christ comes with perks, benefits, and responsibilities.

2 Corinthians 5:17-21 (New King James Version)

17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new. 18 Now all things are of God, who has reconciled us to Himself through Jesus Christ, and has given us the ministry of reconciliation, 19 that is, that God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself, not imputing their trespasses to them, and has committed to us the word of reconciliation.

20 Now then, we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were pleading through us: we implore you on Christ’s behalf, be reconciled to God. 21 For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.

When you are in Christ, you are a new creation, an ambassador for Christ. When you are a born-again child of God, you are seated in heavenly places and therefore not an earthly being.

Ephesians 2:6 (New King James Version)

6 and raised us up together, and made us sit together in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus,

This is a high calling that carries with it significant implications for our identity, purpose, and lifestyle. Let's understand the significance of being an ambassador for Christ, its purpose, and the perks attached to the role, and its meaning.

1. What is an Ambassador?

2 Corinthians 5:20:

So we are Christ’s ambassadors; God is making his appeal through us. We speak for Christ when we plead, “Come back to God!” (New Living Translation).

In the secular world, an ambassador is a representative of one country while residing in another. They communicate and enact the will of their homeland in the host country. Their official communication and directives are taken as the official stance of their homeland.

As an ambassador for Christ, you represent Christ’s Heavenly kingdom. You represent Heaven! Your official communication should be the official stance of Heaven. Therefore, you should speak only what God says. Do not speak negative words or negativity, do not speak or declare the negative things that may be in manifestation in the physical, rather declare the Word of God. Such as healing confessions, prosperity confessions, confessions of success, confessions of strength, etc.

The Word of God you declare will change any negative situation because the world was created by the Word of God, and the Word of God will change it and recreate it to align with the Word of God being declared.

Hebrews 11:3 (NKJV) 3 By faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that the things which are seen were not made of things which are visible.

Proverbs 18:21 (NKJV)

21 Death and life are in the power of the tongue, And those who love it will eat its fruit.

As ambassadors for Christ, you should enact the will of God on the earth, as Jesus said in the Lord’s prayer,

Matthew 6:10 (NKJV)

10 Your kingdom come. Your will be done On earth as it is in heaven.

Every day, as a child of God, you should enforce God’s will in your life, your family, your community, and on the Earth. You may ask, how do I enforce the will of God in my life and my environment? You enforce God's will in your life by practicing the Word of God, doing God's will, and declaring the Word of God over your life and situations in your life. You also enforce God's will through prayers, as seen in the Lord's prayer (Matthew 6:10).

2. Diplomatic Immunity and Protection

Ambassadors typically enjoy diplomatic immunity. This means that they aren't subjected to the host country's laws in the same way as ordinary residents. In a spiritual sense, as ambassadors of Christ, we are protected, and subject to higher laws. The enemy cannot hold us bound by the things of this world.

Romans 8:2 (NKJV)
For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the law of sin and death.

Psalm 91:11

"For he will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways."

Ephesians 2:6 (NKJV)

6 and raised us up together, and made us sit together in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus,

Luke 10:19 (NKJV)

19 Behold, I give you the authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you.

3. Provisions from the Home Country

Just as ambassadors are provided for by their home country, God provides for us.

Philippians 4:19

"And my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus."

God provides for you, and your supply does not depend on the resources of the Earth, but rather, on God’s provision.

Ephesians 1: 17 – 18

17 that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him, 18 the eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that you may know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints.

4. The Riches of Heaven and the Wealth of Christ

Ambassadors from rich nations have enormous resources at their disposal because of the wealth of their home country.

Revelation 21:21:

"The twelve gates were twelve pearls, each gate made of a single pearl. The great street of the city was of gold, as pure as transparent glass."

It's important to note that Heaven's wealth isn't just about literal riches only, but also about the power, wisdom, glory, beauty, and majesty of God. Our inheritance is beyond comprehension!

Revelation 5:12

"Saying with a loud voice, 'Worthy is the Lamb who was slain, to receive power and wealth and wisdom and might and honor and glory and blessing!'"

Jesus is indeed the richest of all, not just in material things but also in power, authority, and honor.

5. Representing the Richest King as an Ambassador for Christ

As Christ's ambassadors, we represent the richest King of all, and its not even close in any way. Jesus is by far the richest, He is the sovereign.

Matthew 28:18

"Then Jesus came to them and said, 'All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.'"

Jesus has given his disciples (the redeemed, born-again Christians) the right to use His Name.

Mark 16:17-18 (NKJV) 17 And these signs will follow those who believe: In My name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new tongues; 18 they will take up serpents; and if they drink anything deadly, it will by no means hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover.”

John 16:23-24 (NKJV)

23 “And in that day you will ask Me nothing. Most assuredly, I say to you, whatever you ask the Father in My name He will give you. 24 Until now you have asked nothing in My name. Ask, and you will receive, that your joy may be full.

Representing Jesus means we work miracles in His Name, and can pray and ask God for things in the Name of Jesus, and we will receive them. It also means we carry the message of hope, salvation, love, and redemption to a world that desperately needs it.

Putting It All Together

Being an ambassador for Christ is not just a title but a calling. As we represent Jesus, we should do so with humility, integrity, and love. We have the backing of the richest King and the resources of Heaven. Let's be diligent and faithful in our ambassadorial duties, always pointing people to Jesus, reconciling people to God, declaring His Word on earth, and enforcing the will of God of earth.

If you are a Christian, know that you are an ambassador for Christ. Now that you have read about your ambassadorial role with its responsibilities, perks, and benefits, even if you have not seen it work in your life before, begin now to meditate on the scriptures listed in this article and believe it. Take it by faith and you will see it manifest in your life!

However, to take delivery of what God has for you, you have to become a bonafide child of God. You do that by surrendering your life to Jesus and making Him the Lord of your life. God will forgive your sins and accept you as His own, and write your name in the Book of Life. You will then begin a Christian walk with Jesus where you experience victory after victory.

If you would like to surrender to Jesus and make the Lord of your life, you can do so right now where you are right now by praying the Salvation Prayer out loud and mean it from your heart because the Word of God says in Romans 10 verse 10:

10 For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

So pray the salvation prayer out loud and become a child of God right now. It will be the best decision you can make. You can trust Jesus with your life and destiny.
